The MG Cyberster: India’s First Electric Super-Roadster Reimagined

The MG Cyberster isn't just another electric vehicle; it’s a statement of intent from JSW MG Motor India. Launched in July 2025 as the flagship halo model for the premium MG Select retail channel, this all-electric convertible bridges the gap between classic British roadster heritage and futuristic gaming-style performance.

1. Exterior Design: Scissor Doors and Sci-Fi Style
The Cyberster takes inspiration from the iconic 1960s MGB Roadster but dials the drama up to eleven.
  • The Wow Factor: It is the most affordable car in India to feature electrically operated scissor doors. These butterfly doors are equipped with ultrasonic sensors to detect obstacles, ensuring they don't hit nearby objects as they glide upward.
  • The Soft-Top Experience: The fabric roof can be electronically opened or closed in just 10 seconds, even while driving at speeds up to 50 km/h.
  • Aero-Focused Silhouette: With a drag coefficient of just 0.269 Cd, the car features a Wind Hunter front design and a classic sloping tail to maximize stability at high speeds. Unique arrow-shaped LED taillights and 20-inch dual-tone alloy wheels with red Brembo calipers complete its aggressive stance.
2. Performance: Supercar Territory
Underneath its sculptural body lies a powertrain that punches well above its weight class.
  • Dual-Motor AWD: In India, the Cyberster comes standard with a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup delivering a massive 510 PS (503 bhp) and 725 Nm of peak torque.
  • Blistering Speed: Engaging Super Sport mode unlocks Launch Control, propelling the car from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 3.2 seconds.
  • F1-Tuned Handling: The chassis was tuned by former Formula 1 engineer Marco Fainello. It features a sophisticated double-wishbone front and five-link independent rear suspension, offering a balanced 50:50 weight distribution.
3. The Fighter-Jet Cockpit
Step inside, and you’re met with a wrap-around digital environment that feels more like a gaming rig than a traditional car.
  • Triple-Screen Setup: The driver is flanked by three screens: a central 10.25-inch instrument cluster and two 7-inch panels for navigation and vehicle data.
  • Fourth Command Center: A vertical 7-inch touchscreen on the center console controls climate and soft-top functions.
  • Premium Materials: The cabin is draped in a mix of sustainable Dinamica suede and vegan leather. Enthusiasts will appreciate the flat-bottom steering wheel with a dedicated red Super Sport button for instant performance.
4. Range and Charging
Designed for both weekend thrills and grand touring, the Cyberster balances power with usable range.
  • Ultra-Thin Battery: It uses a 77 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that is just 110 mm thick -- one of the slimmest in the industry -- to keep the car’s center of gravity low.
  • Total Range: It claims a range of 580 km (MIDC/CLTC cycle), though real-world performance is estimated at 400–440 km, depending on driving style.
  • Quick Top-Ups: Using a 144 kW DC fast charger, you can juice the battery from 10% to 80% in about 40 minutes.
5. Safety and Smart Tech
Despite its focus on speed, the Cyberster includes a comprehensive safety suite:
  • Level 2 ADAS: Features include Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Forward Collision Warning, and a Driver Monitoring System that detects drowsiness.
  • Audio Excellence: An 8-speaker Bose sound system with AudioPilot technology adjusts volume automatically to compensate for wind and road noise when the top is down.
6. The Verdict:
While it weighs nearly two tonnes, making it feel more like a high-speed Grand Tourer (GT) than a lightweight analog sports car, the MG Cyberster provides an unmatched coolness factor and performance-per-rupee (  75 lakh, ex-showroom) that rivals traditional luxury brands like BMW or Porsche.
